Denmark (1968)

Founded in Denmark in 1968, Kvadrat is one of the world’s leading textile manu­fac­tur­ers, renowned for pushing the bound­aries of fabric inno­va­tion while staying rooted in Scan­di­na­vian design and Pop Art heritage. The company made its mark with Halling­dal, a wool-viscose textile by Nanna Ditzel — valued for its dura­bil­ity and vivid color, used every­where from the Danish National Rail­ways to international airports.

Over the decades, Kvadrat intro­duced a series of design icons, includ­ing Tonus by Nina Koppel and Divina by Finn Skødt — fabrics that remain staples in both contract and resi­den­tial inte­ri­ors. Now led by CEO Anders Byriel and Head of Product Devel­op­ment Mette Bendix, Kvadrat has expanded its port­fo­lio through tech­ni­cal advance­ments and archi­tec­tural appli­ca­tions, includ­ing the Soft Cells acoustic panels featured in land­mark projects such as London’s Gherkin.

Kvadrat main­tains strong ties to the art and design world, collab­o­rat­ing with leading insti­tu­tions and archi­tects on custom textiles for MoMA, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Guggen­heim Museum Bilbao. In 2017, they invited 19 design­ers to rein­ter­pret their Canvas textile in a cele­brated exhi­bi­tion at the London Design Festival.

Recent part­ner­ships with Ronan & Erwan Bouroul­lec and Raf Simons have intro­duced 3D knits, stretch textiles, and fashion-forward acces­sories. With strate­gic acqui­si­tions like Sahco and bedding brand Magniberg, Kvadrat contin­ues to shape the global textile land­scape — combin­ing heritage, inno­va­tion, and uncompromising design.
