Kvadrat Naveli Fabric

Naveli is a pure woolen uphol­stery textile designed by Doshi Levien, distin­guished by its precise struc­ture and vibrant, multi­di­men­sional color expres­sion. Named after the Hindi word for ​“fresh” or ​“new,” Naveli reflects a spirit of clarity, purity, and quiet character.

Woven entirely from worsted wool, Naveli’s construc­tion combines thick and thin yarns in subtly contrast­ing colors, forming a micro-check pattern with gentle irreg­u­lar­i­ties. This adds deli­cate depth and texture, giving the textile a calm but characterful surface.

Inspired by the concept of ​“soft modernism,” Naveli’s palette draws from diverse visual and cultural refer­ences: modernist painters like Male­vich and Albers, the sun-faded tones of South Asian archi­tec­ture, the satu­rated hues of Indian minia­ture paint­ings, and the under­stated elegance of tailored garments. The result is a color story that feels both rooted and refined.

Naveli’s color­ways fall into two expres­sions: those with an ecru base create a crisp, graphic look, while the bolder tones offer more chro­matic rich­ness with subtle patterns. This duality invites creative appli­ca­tions, whether combin­ing color­ways on a single piece or layer­ing them across a spatial composition.

As a mono-mate­r­ial textile made from locally sourced wool and free from synthetic fibers, Naveli offers a reduced envi­ron­men­tal impact. Durable yet refined, it is suit­able for a wide range of public and private interiors.
