Muller Van Severen

Belgium

Muller Van Severen, the Belgian design duo of photographer Fien Muller and sculptor Hannes Van Severen, have built a body of work that balances art and utility with remarkable clarity. Since founding their joint studio in 2011, they have become known for furniture and objects defined by geometric lines, bold material choices, and an almost effortless sense of form.

Materials are the starting point of their practice. Polyethylene, brass, and powder-coated steel recur throughout their collections, each chosen for its structural honesty as much as for its visual presence. This material sensibility extends to their iconic Cutting and Serving Boards, a four-piece set whose sculptural profiles transform an everyday kitchen tool into a statement of contemporary design. Minimal yet playful, the boards capture the pair’s ability to give functional objects the presence of sculpture.

Muller Van Severen’s work resists easy classification. At once intuitive and meticulously researched, their designs blur the lines between art, architecture, and furniture, resulting in pieces that are as at home in a gallery as they are in a domestic setting. This duality has earned them widespread recognition, including exhibitions at Galerie Kreo in Paris and collaborations with major museums and institutions worldwide.

Every object they produce is handmade, with attention paid to the irregularities and raw qualities of the chosen material. The result is a collection that feels immediate and timeless: design that does not disguise its making, but elevates it.

Muller Van Severen continues to explore the fertile ground between function and form, crafting objects that embody the lightness of intuition and the weight of enduring design.
