Nanna Ditzel

Denmark

A pioneering figure in mid-century Danish design, Nanna Ditzel trained as a cabinetmaker before graduating from Copenhagen’s School of Arts and Crafts and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1946. Her multidisciplinary work spanned furniture, textiles, and jewelry, marked by bold color, organic forms, and a forward-thinking use of materials like fiberglass, wicker, and metal.

Among her many enduring designs, Hallingdal 65 — created for Kvadrat in 1965 — stands as a benchmark of lasting functionality and modern elegance. Still in continuous production today, the textile reflects Ditzel’s timeless aesthetic and her ability to unite innovation with everyday use.
