Teruhiro Yanagihara

Japan

Teruhiro Yanagihara is a multidisciplinary designer whose work bridges Japanese craft traditions with contemporary design. Born in Japan, he moves fluidly across cultures and disciplines, working in product and textile design, interiors, creative direction, and branding.

After studying furniture design at Osaka University of Arts, he founded Teruhiro Yanagihara Studio in 2002. Since then, the studio has grown into an international practice with a presence in Japan, Denmark, the Netherlands, and France.

Yanagihara’s designs are known for their clarity, material sensitivity, and quiet innovation. His work often reflects a deep dialogue between Eastern and Western aesthetics, blending minimalism with a strong sense of tactility and tradition. His designs have been acquired by leading institutions, including the Centre National des Arts Plastiques in Paris and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

In addition to his design work, Yanagihara has served on juries for major design competitions such as the Good Design Award Japan (2020) and the Kokuyo Design Award (2021). His global perspective and thoughtful design language have made him a respected figure in the international design community.
