Tricolore Vase SH2

c. 2017

by Sebastian Herkner

Tradition Blue Gold Glass Vase File 4

The Tricolore Vase SH2, designed by Sebastian Herkner for &Tradition, is a study in the optical properties of glass and color. The set comprises two cylindrical vessels of differing heights and diameters, rendered in amber and lapis tones. Each piece is mouth-blown using traditional techniques to achieve a uniform density and precise, fire-polished edges.

The vases are intended for use either as independent objects or as a nested composition. When placed together, the transparency of the glass allows the primary colors to overlap, creating a third, shifting hue that varies according to the angle and intensity of the ambient light. The resulting form relies on material clarity rather than ornament, focusing on the intersection of geometry and chromatic depth. Subtle variations inherent in the glass-blowing process mark each vessel as an individual production, emphasizing the industrial yet artisanal nature of the series.
