More details here…

Tonica 2 is a refined woolen upholstery textile designed by Georgina Wright for Kvadrat. As an evolution of the original Tonica launched in 2000, Tonica 2 enhances the classic with a more complex and dynamic color expression, created by blending three piece-dyed wool qualities instead of two.

Wright, celebrated for her mastery of color and texture, brings her characteristic subtlety to Tonica 2. The fabric features a tight twill weave and a softly mottled surface with a subdued black shadow that gives each colorway depth and clarity. The expanded palette includes 39 hues — 24 newly introduced in 2017 — ranging from quiet neutrals to vivid, saturated tones. This broad spectrum, described as a color bomb,” offers great flexibility for contemporary interiors.

Tonica 2 is crafted from 100% wool and has a Martindale rating of 45,000, ensuring exceptional durability for both public and private settings. Its natural sound-dampening qualities and tactile richness make it suitable for furniture upholstery, curtains, and acoustic applications.

Named after the musical term tonika” — the keynote of a scale — Tonica 2 embodies a sense of comfort and grounding. Like much of Wright’s work, it draws inspiration from both nature and architecture, balancing warmth and precision in a timeless textile design.

United Kingdom

Georgina Wright is a celebrated British textile designer known for her exceptional ability to merge color, texture, and atmosphere into elegant woven fabrics. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in 1987, Wright discovered her passion for weaving during her studies, where she began to blend her love of art, fiber, and design into a distinct creative language.

Her work draws inspiration from landscapes and architecture, yet retains a sense of warmth and tactility that prevents it from feeling sterile or overly rigid. Wright's nuanced understanding of texture and refined eye for color have made her one of the most respected and in-demand woven textile designers in the world.

In her longstanding collaboration with Kvadrat, Wright’s work is marked by a subtle sophistication, where beauty and function coexist harmoniously. Whether crafting bold or understated compositions, her signature use of color is a unifying thread across a diverse range of textile expressions.
