More details here…

Steelcut Quartet brings a soft, expressive mélange look to the iconic Steelcut family, blending the durability and structure of its predecessors with a warmer, more inviting character. Designed by Giulio Ridolfo and developed in close collaboration with Wooltex, this textile features a unique blend of four yarn colors, offering rich depth and subtle complexity.

The intricate construction — pioneered by Frans Dijkmeijer and shared with Steelcut 3, Trio, and Beat — creates a three-dimensional surface of fine, pyramid-like points. While the pattern is precise and controlled, the overall feel is tactile and comforting. The mélange effect gives the textile a harmonious blend of tones that shift with light and perspective, offering a sense of movement and quiet vibrancy.

Ridolfo’s palette draws inspiration from arte cinetica e programmata as well as his extensive color archive, blending bold accents with dusty pastels and nuanced intertones. In each of the textile’s colorways,” he explains, there is some kind of communication happening because the four different colors are talking with each other.”

Crafted from renewable new wool, Steelcut Quartet is both sustainable and versatile. Its soft visual expression makes it particularly suited for contract spaces that aim to feel welcoming and home-like, while its durability ensures it performs just as well in residential settings.

Steelcut Quartet complements the rest of the Steelcut series, enabling layered, characterful combinations of solid, patterned, and melanged surfaces.

Frans Dikmeijer

Netherlands

Frans Dikmeijer studied at the Academy of Industrial Design in Eindhoven, before he began working at Kendix textiles. From there he became Head of Design at Artex before moving onto de Ploeg textiles. By 1992 his relationship with Kvadrat had begun and he went on to create a large number of upholstery textiles for them.

Dikmeiger is often referred to as one of Europe’s leading weavers. His work perceives materials, colors and textures as an organic whole. It is fundamental for him that there is harmony within the elements. A common characteristic of Frans Dikmeijer’s woven textiles is that they radiate a logical simplicity despite the technical complexity of them.

Giulio Ridolfo

Italy

Italian designer Giulio Ridolfo is renowned for his poetic and intuitive approach to color. A self-described observer and storyteller, he blends influences from nature, art, and fashion to develop nuanced, atmospheric palettes. At Kvadrat, he brings a southern warmth to Nordic design, shaping color through deep involvement in yarn structure and textile production.

A graduate of Milan’s Domus Academy, Ridolfo has collaborated with leading fashion and interior brands for decades. His signature “in-between” hues emerge from continuous iteration and layered inspiration—images, textures, and colors combined into something wholly original. Celebrated as a master of color, Ridolfo’s work continues to influence the textile industry worldwide.
