Mono V Mark Braun Germany 2

The Mono V, released in 2021, is the 21st-century update to the Mono design legacy. Created by designer Mark Braun, the set takes a radical approach to material efficiency, inspired by the simple, form-driven stability of a disposable fork.

The key to its strength and aesthetic is the central V’-shaped embossing that runs down the length of the handle. This signature bend provides the necessary rigidity, allowing the flatware to be crafted from a resource-saving 1.5mm thin sheet of stainless steel without any heavy rolling process. The result is a striking, geometric profile that creates a dynamic play of light and shadow, earning it an iF Design Gold Award for its blend of elegance, simplicity, and economic use of material.

The five-piece flatware set includes all essential utensils, as well as a dessert fork and espresso spoon, each handcrafted in Germany to Mono’s exacting standards.

Mark Braun

Germany

Mark Braun is a Berlin-based designer whose work moves fluidly between industrial production and studio editions, balancing clarity of form with a deep respect for material. Since founding his studio in 2006, he has collaborated with international brands including Thonet, Nomos Glashütte, Lobmeyr, and Northern, creating objects that range from furniture to glassware to timepieces—all united by an insistence on both usability and elegance.

His most celebrated contribution to table culture is the Mono V flatware collection, designed for the German manufacturer Mono. With its elongated proportions, sculptural handles, and refined weight, the series extends Braun’s interest in minimalism into the rituals of dining. Mono V exemplifies his belief that everyday tools can embody both precision and pleasure, making the simple act of holding a fork or knife an aesthetic experience.

Braun’s work has been recognized with numerous international awards, including the IF Award, the Red Dot Design Award, and the German Design Award. His objects have also been presented in galleries from S. Bensimon in Paris to Libby Sellers in London, underlining his ability to operate at the intersection of industry and art. Whether designing cutlery, glassware, or furniture, Braun’s work reflects a consistent ethos: objects should be both functional and resonant, engaging not only the hand but the eye and mind. The Mono V collection captures this philosophy in its purest form—flatware designed not for trend, but for lasting use and quiet distinction.
