More details here…

Apparel is a knitted upholstery textile designed by Amsterdam-based textile studio BYBORRE for Kvadrat Febrik, drawing inspiration from the world of fashion.

Set against a backdrop of broken diagonal stitching, Apparel reveals a layered, abstract pattern derived from garment construction blueprints. These shapes create a dynamic visual rhythm that becomes especially expressive on large-scale furniture.

Apparel’s distinctive padded texture comes from thick polyester yarns inserted between two knitted layers, paired with a soft wool surface that offers both comfort and visual depth. From afar, it appears as a subtle mélange, but up close, it reveals a complex interplay of overlapping forms and colors.

Each colorway is created using three unicolored yarns in varying shades, resulting in rich, dimensional hues. The palette includes earthy neutrals, deep blues, and saturated reds — designed for versatility and ideal for pairing with solid textiles.

True to its knitted nature, Apparel offers generous stretch and is particularly suited for upholstering curved or organic shapes. Its plush structure makes it best suited for residential settings or low-traffic commercial interiors.

BYBORRE

Netherlands

BYBORRE is an Amsterdam-based textile innovation studio founded by Borre Akkersdijk that works on the frontiers of material development, functionality, and aesthetics through engineered knits.

Akkersdijk first became interested in materials and textile production while a student at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, where he began learning about the different elements involved in textile production, from the machines – weaving to knitting to circular knitting – to the details involved in the supply chain itself, including the yarn suppliers and the factories.

The BYBORRE label is the final step in proving the potential for uniting the manufacturing process under one roof to prevent waste and promote responsible design. The label serves as a means of highlighting what could and should be possible with BYBORRE textiles. It is a playground for refining the BYBORRE ideology – a hub of imagination where all materials are building blocks and research and development can be pushed to the final point.
