Mono

Germany

Founded in 1959, Mono is a family-run German design house that has come to define modernist tableware. Known for its flatware, cutlery, and tabletop collections, Mono has spent more than six decades refining a language of clarity and precision, where form is stripped to its essentials and craftsmanship is never compromised.

The company’s breakthrough arrived with Mono A, a flatware pattern conceived by Professor Peter Raacke. Its radical simplicity — functional, unadorned, and exacting — marked a turning point in postwar industrial design. Still in production today, Mono A sits in the permanent collections of institutions such as MoMA and the Victoria and Albert Museum, a testament to its enduring influence. From that starting point, Mono has cultivated a catalogue of designs that share a common philosophy: minimal yet expressive, rigorous yet elegant.

Production continues in Mono’s original factory, where traditional techniques remain central. Every piece is brushed, ground, polished, and assembled by hand, a process that underscores the company’s devotion to quality and its resistance to disposability. Now under the leadership of the fifth generation of the Seibel family, Mono remains both heritage brand and living practice. Its collections are designed not for fashion or season but for life: tableware meant to last, to be used daily, and to embody the quiet conviction that design, at its best, enriches the rituals of the table.
