More details here…

The Backenzahn stool, a modern icon from the studio of Philipp Mainzer at E15 furniture, sits at the intersection of the organic and the architectural. Named for the German word for molar,” the piece is a literal and figurative grounding of form, where four solid-wood legs taper into roots” that suggest a permanence rarely found in occasional furniture. It is a work that refuses to be categorized, functioning with equal poise as a sculptural stool, an understated side table, or a quiet centerpiece for a room in need of a soul.

The stool’s character is defined by the inherent drama of its materials — either northern European oiled oak or rich walnut — which are left to express their own histories through natural grain, deep striations, and those intentional, organic splits that make each iteration unique. From above, the narrow gaps between the legs converge into a precise cruciform, a subtle geometric contrast to the inviting, slightly concave seat designed for ergonomic comfort. For those with more utilitarian needs, a flat-top variation is available, offering a level surface that transforms the Backenzahn into a reliable, timeless plinth.
