Hampson Woods
London
In 2010, after working as a carpenter, writer, and photographer around the world, Jonty Hampson returned to his native UK and set up a wood workshop in Hackney, with a sign over his stall that read ALL MY OWN WORK. His first products were serving boards fashioned from timber from his family’s woodland and a fallen London Plane in Russell Square. Six years later, he craved an even closer connection to the source, and set up a studio in an old stone barn in Cumbria.
Since then, Hampson Woods has developed ranges of handmade bespoke and commercial designs sourced from small rural merchants and local countrysides. Each piece foregrounds the natural patina, knots, cracks, and curves which determine each tree’s individual character. Varying grits of sandpaper smooth the surfaces without dulling them; Hampson Woods’ signature wood balm, a blend of natural oils and waxes, fosters an inner glow and ensures durability for decades to come.
